The five-year development plans for women and children in the Tibet autonomous region were unveiled on Dec 26 in Lhasa at a news conference.
By the end of 2021, the total population of the region was 3.66 million, of which 1.75 million were women, accounting for 47.81 percent of the total, while the population of children (0-14 years old) was 900,000, accounting for 24.59 percent, Li Sang, deputy director of the Women and Children's Working Committee of the Tibet autonomous region, said at the news conference. The development of women and children is of great significance, Li added.
The women's development plan outlines 79 main goals and 98 measures in the eight fields of health, education, economy, participation in decision-making and management, social security, family construction, the environment, and the law. There are 74 main goals and 91 measures in the children's plan, ranging from health, safety, education, and welfare, to family, the environment, and the law.
Li said that compared with the previous round of planning, these two plans show new features and highlights.
The screening rate of cervical cancer among women of appropriate age should reach over 70 percent, and that of breast cancer should gradually increase, according to the women's plan, which also proposes to "establish a three-level comprehensive prevention and control mechanism that incorporates HPV vaccination, cervical cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment".
In addition, the screening and treatment of "two cancers" among women and the voluntary free HPV vaccination for girls aged 13-14 and influenza vaccination for seniors over 60 and primary and secondary school students are included in the 38 projects for improving the people's lives in Tibet in 2022 .
