Tibet sees stable foreign trade growth in 2022

The Tibet autonomous region has seen the largest volume of foreign trade with Nepal in 2022, with the total import and export value amounting to 1.56 billion yuan ($231.48 million), according to the customs authority in Lhasa, capital city of the autonomous region.

The total value of import and export in the autonomous region was 4.6 billion yuan in 2022, an increase of 14.6 percent year-on-year, where export valued at 4.31 billion yuan and import at 292 million yuan.

According to Qiong Da, head of the general business division of Lhasa Customs, the autonomous region achieved positive growth of foreign trade in 2022 after overcoming multiple unfavorable factors, which was 6.9 percentage points higher than the national average.

"Lhasa contributed the largest share to the foreign trade growth in the Tibet autonomous region, with 4.45 billion yuan of import and export in 2022, which saw a year-on-year increase of 22.9 percent and accounted for 96.6 percent of the total value of the autonomous region's foreign trade during the same period," Qiong Da said.

In 2022, private enterprises played a leading role in the region's foreign trade growth. Their import and export value reached 4.49 billion yuan, accounting for 97.6 percent of the region's total during the same period. General trade import and export grew rapidly and hit 3.08 billion yuan in 2022, with an increase of 36.7 percent and accounting for 67.0 percent of the region's total value of foreign trade during the same period. The import and export of major trading partners remained stable.
