According to the Commerce Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the overall consumption in the region reached 2.52 billion yuan ($ 372.17 million) during the 2023 Spring Festival holiday (Jan 21- 27), a year-on-year increase of 16.55 percent. The region saw 1.54 billion yuan of commodity consumption and 984 million yuan of service consumption during the holiday, marking year-on-year increases of 10.8 percent and 26.84 percent respectively.
Online retail sales reached 271 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.36 percent, where 129 million yuan came from sale of physical goods and 142 million yuan from service-based sales, seeing year-on-year increases of 11.25 percent and 44.22 percent respectively.
More consumers chose to eat out during the weeklong holiday, which accordingly facilitated recovery of the catering industry. The catering consumption reached 279 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33.88 percent. As for the recreation industry, the region saw a box office of 4.11 million yuan for the holiday period, showing a recovery trend.
The autonomous region will make targeted policies and measures with focuses on steadily expanding traditional consumption, developing new type of consumption, promoting the coordinated development of urban and rural consumption, and optimizing the consumption environment, in a bid to maintian the sustainable and healthy development of the consumption market in the region and to contribute to the steady growth of the regional economy.
