Tashi Gyaltsan, a grassroots official from Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region, has become more mature and confident since he attended the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing in 2018.

Tashi Gyaltsan was only 29 years old when he was elected as an NPC deputy from the Lhoba ethnic group for the first time in 2018. Understandably, he seemed to be very proud, excited and yet a little bit nervous during the first session of the 13th NPC.

This year, Tashi Gyaltsan is serving his second term as an NPC deputy. In an interview, he said that his reelection is a testament of love and care from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the country toward the Lhoba ethnic group and a trust in him from relevant departments as well as the people.

During the country's two sessions in March, he showed great self-confidence and was more willing to share with new NPC deputies about his experience and feelings in the fulfillment of political obligations.

Tashi Gyaltsan began to work in 2012 when the 18th CPC National Congress was convened. He was transferred from Qiongjie county to Doyul Lhoba autonomous township of Lhunze county in Shannan prefecture in 2021.

Since his assumption of the positions of deputy CPC secretary and the head of Doyul Lhoba autonomous township, Tashi Gyaltsan has conducted local research tours and learned a lot about the township’s economic and social development, the life and production of its people, and its construction of a border defense.

Tashi Gyaltsan said that thanks to full support from the CPC committees and governments at all levels, local residents have become more willing and determined to participate in economic and social development and help the country ensure the security of its border areas.

As an NPC deputy, Tashi Gyaltsan stressed the importance and necessity of keeping on learning, building a bridge between the government and the people, helping the public solve their difficulties and problems and make their voices heard, and setting up an example in the fulfillment of personal duties.

All three border villages of Doyul Lhoba autonomous township have tap water and electricity, and infrastructure such as roads and the internet. People's living standards have been significantly improved, he said.

Statistics show that the township's average per capita disposable income reached 26,000 yuan ($3,775.4) in 2022.

At the conclusion of his interview, Tashi Gyaltsan said that he will strive in unity with local people to build their hometown into a beautiful place and to safeguard the homeland.
