After saving the life of a newborn girl at Shannan Maternal and Child Health Hospital in the Tibet autonomous region, physician Wang Hui, from Hubei province, was given a hada by the infant's grateful father.

The white Tibetan scarf represents purity and honesty.

Wang, who is deputy chief physician of neonatology department of the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Hubei Province, was part of a medical aid effort in Tibet last summer. During her days in Tibet, she kept her mobile phone open 24 hours a day for urgent calls to help critically ill newborns.

A call came from the neonatal department of Shannan hospital at 4 am on July 30, reporting that a Tibetan woman was about to give birth, and the baby was in danger. The fetal heartbeat was abnormal.

Wang, who had been asleep, rushed to the hospital, where the pregnant woman delivered smoothly, but the infant's heartbeat was weak, its skin color pale. Wang intervened, and soon the heart rate rose and the baby girl's color normalized. It was a relief when the child cried loudly and was able to move to the neonatal ward.

After a period of observation and treatment, the baby's condition stabilized.

The next day, when Wang was making rounds, the child's grandmother told her that this was the second time Wang had saved newborn for the family.

Last year, the grandmother's daughter gave birth to a baby at the same hospital. Because of intrauterine dysplasia, the baby had a low weight and was short of breath after birth.

In the neonatal department, Wang provided respiratory and nutritional support, which solved the problem.

Over the past year, Wang has conveyed her clinical knowledge to members of the aid team, strengthening the treatment of newborns.

The neonatology department has provided tracheal intubation invasive respiratory support for 12 newborn babies and non-invasive respiratory support for 18 newborn babies.
