On Aug 23, the opening ceremony of the Ali Museum was held in Shiquanhe town, Ali prefecture in Tibet autonomous region. This is the first comprehensive museum in the Ali region.
The Ali Museum consists of seven themed exhibition halls that showcase the unique history, culture, and natural landscapes of the Ali region. The themes include Ali's natural geography, ancient civilizations, the early Bronze Age (the Xiangxiong civilization), the history and culture of the Guge Dynasty, folk culture and intangible cultural heritage preservation, as well as outstanding historical figures of Ali.
Jing Haibin, deputy secretary of the Ali Prefectural Committee and executive deputy commissioner of Ali Prefectural Administrative Office, explained that the museum is expected to serve as a splendid window to display the plateau's heritage, landscapes, and spirit. It also serves as a nonprofit public cultural service space open to the public. "We must uphold the public welfare nature of cultural and museum work, innovate exhibition methods, promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning, and integrate museums deeply with education, tourism, commerce, and design, to continuously stimulate and enhance the vitality of the museum," said Jing.
