The China Meteorological Administration released the evaluation results of the 2023 Climate and Ecological Brand Creation Demonstration Activity. A total of 66 regions across the country were officially awarded the title of "China's Natural Oxygen Bar," including Chayu county, Southwest China's Xizang (Tibet) autonomous region.

"China's Natural Oxygen Bar" is one of the national climate symbols. The awarded regions are characterized by high levels of negative oxygen ions, good air quality, favorable climate and environment, well-equipped facilities, and suitability for tourism, leisure, and health. The recognition as "China's Natural Oxygen Bar" will contribute to the exploration and transformation of local ecological and climatic tourism resources, serving as a practical aid for ecological civilization construction and promoting the development of comprehensive tourism.

Chayu county has an average elevation of 2,300 meters. It falls within the subtropical humid climate zone in the southern Himalayas, boasting a superior ecological environment and a pleasant climate. The annual average temperature is 12.3°C, with an annual average precipitation of 764.5mm. The forest coverage rate reaches 55.55 percent, and the county enjoys 100 percent of days with excellent air quality throughout the year. The county is home to numerous large and medium-sized rivers, mainly including the Chayu River and the Nu River, with over 180 rivers covering an area of more than 50 square kilometers. The measured annual average concentration of negative oxygen ions ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 ions per cubic centimeter, with the maximum average concentration reaching 7,901 ions per cubic centimeter, making it a true "natural oxygen-rich chamber" in Tibet.

Since the initiation of the creation work, the Chayu county government has taken the establishment of "China's Natural Oxygen Bar" as an important means to promote the development of comprehensive tourism and facilitate rural revitalization, carrying out the creation work in a solid and orderly manner. The meteorological department of the Tibet autonomous region actively collaborated with the Chayu county government to prepare the application and, through on-site investigations by experts from the China Meteorological Administration, successfully applied for the recognition as "China's Natural Oxygen Bar."

The recognition of Chayu as "China's Natural Oxygen Bar" not only signifies the exploration and transformation of Tibet's ecological and climatic tourism resources but also serves as a concrete practice to aid in ecological civilization construction and promote tourism development. In the next step, Chayu will continue to strive to explore the path toward a strong ecological economy.
