Himalaya Airlines flight H9731 took off on March 31 from Lhasa Gonggar International Airport in Xizang autonomous region, in its way to Pokhara, Nepal, marking the official opening of a new international route.
This is the second direct flight connecting Lhasa and Nepal, following the opening of the Kathmandu route.
The new route is being served by Airbus A319C aircraft, with the flight numbers H9731 and H9732.
Flights from Lhasa to Pokhara operate every Monday, departing at 1:15 pm Beijing time and arriving at 3:00 pm. The return flights from Pokhara to Lhasa take place every Tuesday, departing at 10:35 am Beijing time and arriving at 12:05 pm.
Lhasa Gonggar International Airport acts as a key hub for China's South Asia connections and is said to play a critical role in integrating Xizang into the Belt and Road Initiative. This new route is deemed to be a significant development for regional connectivity, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Nepal in 2025.
It also enhances Xizang's international openness and fosters cooperative regional development.
A passenger on the inaugural flight expressed his excitement: "I'm eager to explore the landscapes and cultural heritage of Pokhara. I'll return to Lhasa via Kathmandu after 15 days."
The new route is expected to promote tourism, cultural exchanges and collaboration between China and Nepal – further strengthening their bonds and regional growth.
