Xizang is pioneering a more efficient trade system through its innovative "region-port linkage" model, which optimizes customs clearance and logistics to reduce costs and accelerate trade. This strategy leverages Xizang's unique border advantages, streamlining cargo inspections and export processes.
At Shigatse International Land Port, a new cargo inspection site has significantly cut logistics costs and expedited clearance times. With 163 million yuan ($22.6 million) in targeted investments, the port integrates customs clearance, storage, and transportation, enabling businesses to process goods faster and more efficiently. Since its launch, 60 shipments, including new energy vehicles and daily goods valued at 66 million yuan, have successfully cleared customs.
Keyrung Port, a key trade hub on the Sino-Nepal border, plays a crucial role in facilitating China's new energy vehicle exports. New measures, such as early declarations, expedited inspections, and innovative clearance models, have allowed smoother cross-border transit. In 2024 alone, Keyrung and Zhangmu ports handled 11,718 new energy vehicle exports.
Additionally, Xizang is expanding railway and air logistics. The South Asia railway service has transported 124 million yuan in goods, while Lhasa Gonggar International Airport's cargo terminal is enhancing cross-border e-commerce efficiency.
By refining trade processes and lowering costs, Xizang is fostering economic growth and strengthening its role in international commerce, further advancing China's Belt and Road Initiative.
