During the 2025 Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the number of visits to Xizang rose 13.79 percent to 1.26 million people, generating 1.11 billion yuan ($155.46 million) in tourism revenue, a 12.7 percent increase year-on-year. With lingering enthusiasm from the May Day holiday and the upcoming summer travel rush, Xizang's tourism scene continues to gain momentum.

According to Ctrip, inbound tourism to Xizang rose 17 percent, with visitors coming from Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. Popular attractions included Potala Palace, Namtso Lake, Everest Base Camp, Yamdrok Lake, and Jokhang Temple. The summer heat also drove demand for refreshing activities, such as stream trekking and rafting, which saw a 50 percent surge in popularity.

A highlight of the festival was the dragon boat races along the Lhasa River, where, for the first time, Xizang's traditional yak-skin boats competed alongside modern dragon boats. This cultural fusion showcased Xizang's rich heritage and reinforced the unity of China's diverse ethnic groups.

Road emerged as a popular travel option, with rental car bookings comprising 44 percent of holiday travel. Families favored this flexible mode of travel, making exploration more comfortable and private.

With the peak summer season approaching, Xizang is enhancing tourism services and infrastructure, ensuring visitors an unforgettable experience in the breathtaking landscapes of the "Third Pole of the Earth".
