Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region has planned to continue to reinforce its reforestation in 2020, expecting 62,820 hectares of land to be planted with trees in the year, China Tibet News reported on Tuesday.
To conserve the ecosystem while eradicating poverty, Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region hired 309,000 farmers and herders as forest rangers in 2018, bringing the total number of people engaged in environmental protection to 667,000.
The environmental quality and living conditions on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau have steadily improved thanks to government efforts, and local residents have been the economic beneficiaries due to the advent of green industry and ecological compensation policies, a white paper issued on July 18 said.
